The World Affairs Council of Maine + Osher Lifelong Learning Institute are pleased to present:
Great Decisions: 
Discussion Program on World Affairs
featuring WACM member facilitators

If you are 50 or older, with a curious mind and an interest in learning just for the joy of it, you are invited to join 2,000-plus like-minded older learners who are members of the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) on the Portland campus of the University of Southern Maine. 

This course runs 8 weeks and begins Friday, March 23rd. Two sessions available: 9:30-11:30 or 12:45-2:45pm.


Morning session is now FULL. A few spots remain in the afternoon session! 

Great Decisions is a flagship program of the World Affairs Council of Maine, facilitated by members of the Council. The eight topics of discussion for 2018: 

  • The Waning of Pax America; 
  • Russia’s Foreign Policy; 
  • China and America: The New Geopolitical Equation; 
  • Media and Foreign Policy; 
  • Turkey: A Partner in Crisis; 
  • U.S. Global Engagement and the Military; 
  • South Africa’s Fragile Democracy;
  • Global Health: Progress and Challenges. 
Students will be mailed a class outline in advance and will be asked to purchase the Great Decisions booklet. Students are requested to read the relevant chapter before each class to facilitate active discussion. Required book: Great Decisions 2018 Edition, ISBN 9780871242617, USM price $30. This class is repeated in the afternoon.
