ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING
Our Annual Meetings celebrate the work of the World Affairs Council of Maine throughout the fiscal year. We gather to discuss our International Visitor Leadership Programs, Public Diplomacy, and education. We also elect board members, recognize individuals who have contributed significant work to our organization, and celebrate our successes of the year!

2024, 47th Annual Meeting: Purpoodock Club in Cape Elizabeth
The focus of our 47th Annual Meeting was to gather members to reflect on the importance of fostering global engagement for the future of our state. The board approved new members, honored former board member Jackie Dennis with the Bea Chapman Award, and saw active participation in our first-ever silent auction! We heard remarks from the President of the Board on the “State of the Council” and a recap of the year’s events, including IVLP programs and Public Diplomacy in Maine.

46th Annual Meeting: Hannaford Hall, University of Southern Maine
Did you know that there are 2.5 times more people facing hunger in the world than the entire population in the United States of America? Our 46th Annual Meeting highlighted the issue of food insecurity in Maine and across the globe. We were joined by Daniel Gustafson, Special Advisor to the Director General, UN Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO), and Dana Eidsness, Senior Anti-Hunger Advisor, to address this topic with our members.
45th Annual Meeting: Ocean View Dining Hall, Southern Maine Community College
Members of the World Affairs Council of Maine were able to gather for the 45th Annual Meeting to celebrate the achievements of the organization throughout the year. Maine communities stayed engaged with the world through over 40 virtual programs such as our eight-part Great Decisions discussion series, the Virtual Academic World Quest with six of our sister Councils, and several talks and discussion panels with notable guests. This annual meeting, we were joined by Maine columnist, radio journalist, and author of “Call Me American”, Abdi Nor Iftin, in our celebration.
44th Annual Meeting: Portland Country Club in Falmouth
Despite the challenges of social distancing throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, members of the World Affairs Council of Maine were able to gather and celebrate the work of the organization throughout the year. This included keeping our Maine communities engaged with the world through over 40 virtual programs such as our eight-part Great Decisions discussion series, the Virtual Academic World Quest with six of our sister Councils, and several talks and discussion panels with notable guests. This annual meeting, we were joined by the Chief Health Improvement Officer at MaineHealth, and Former Director at Maine Public Health, Dora Anne Mills.
